Carol flourishes at Mitsubishi under the urbane guidance of Philip. She learns her trade writing credit reports and visiting key customers.

Later jobs at PRIVATbanken, Canadian Imperial and ING/NMB follow. Participates in the mid 80's leaseback craze, and the sobering realities of lending money and maintaining credit lines to UK companies after the 1987 crash. Manages not to lend money to Robert Maxwell (no security on offer so a no-brainer really).

Carol meets Peter Greenaway who is house sharing with the boyfriend of a college friend Jude. They get on well and survive a dodgy first date seeing (the first act of) West Side Story. They get on better and buy a flat on Crouch Hill together after landlord problems. They go to the Kings Head Comedy Club up the road every Sunday evening.

Carol continues her extra curricular activities at the same pace with trips to Sol y Sombre (remember Baz fe Jazz?), Madame Jojos, the Electric Ballroom and lots of pub based music venues. She develops an appetite for the theatre seeing Antony Hopkins in Pravda, Serious Money amongst other productions at the Royal Court, besides numerous other small productions around the capital.

Apart from an epic trip round western Turkey with Karon fending off handsome naval lieutenants, Carol holidays with Peter with trips around Europe and for the first time to Thailand.
